2021 HFP RACING TRIATHLONS

USAT STATE OF OHIO AGE GROUP & HIGH SCHOOL TRIATHLON & DUATHLON CHALLENGE

August 1, 2021

Athletes from across Ohio are invited to participate in USA Triathlon’s Ohio State Age Group and High School Triathlon and Duathlon Challenge.  This year’s event gives athletes from 13 years of age to 80 year of age, males and females, an opportunity to participate in an exciting and fun event.  There are no qualifying requirements to participate.  Duathletes are also welcome to participate in the duathlon division.

This year’s event, originally slated to be part of the Ohio State Ross Heart Hospital TriFit Challenge Triathlon that takes in downtown Columbus, Ohio was moved to Deer Creek State Park.

The event takes place in the scenic Deer Creek State Park in Pickaway County (about 35 minutes South of Columbus, OH) and features a mostly flat and fast course with a few rolling hills on the bike.  Triathletes will be swimming a rectangular course along the beach while duathletes will start their race with a run within the park. The bike course take place on the roads surrounding Deer Creek Lake. The races finish with an out and back run course within the park.

AWARDS

All finishers will receive a handsome finisher amenity. The Top 3 male & female overall finishers in the Mini, Sprint & Olympic triathlons and duathlons will receive a commemorative plaque.  The top division finisher in the Mini, Sprint and Olympic triathlons will receive a plaque commemorating their finish.  The top relay team in each race will receive a commemorative plaque. For Aquabike, only the top overall finisher male and female will receive a commemorative plaque noting their finish.

  • Mini Duathlon: 2mi Run – 7mi Bike – 2mi Run
  • Sprint Triathlon: 750m Swim – 20k Bike – 5k Run
  • Sprint Duathlon: 5k Run – 20k Bike – 5k Run
  • Olympic Triathlon: 1500m Swim – 40k Bike – 10k Run
  • Olympic Duathlon: 5k Run – 40k Bike – 10k Run

Relays

For those who prefer to race one element of the triathlon or duathlon we offer a relay division for our sprint and Olympic distance triathlons and duathlons. Relay teams consist of three (3) members (1 swimmer, 1 biker, 1 runner), each member will complete one segment of the race (2 members for duathlon teams).  Each team member will exchange their timing chip bracelet at their assigned bike rack. There are NO age groups in this division.

The mini distance triathlon will start off with a 250 yard out and back swim (in waist deep water along the beach) in Deer Creek Lake, followed by a 7 mile out and back bike course through the countryside and finishing with 2 mile out and back run on the paved park road. Duathletes will start off with a 2 mile run on the same road path.

The sprint distance triathlon features a 750 meter clockwise rectangle swim in Deer Creek Lake, while the duathletes are running an out & back 5k within the park, followed by an out & back 20k bike course through the gently rolling countryside surrounding the park and finishing with an out & back 5k run within the campground area on the paved park trail.

OLYMPIC TRIATHLON & DUATHLON

The Olympic distance triathlon features a 1500 meter 2-lap clockwise rectangle swim in Deer Creek Lake, while the duathletes are running an out & back 5k within the park, followed by an out & back 40k bike course through the gently rolling countryside surrounding the park and finishing with a 2-lap out & back 10k run within the campground area on the paved park trail.

CAESAR CREEK STATE PARK

The Queen City Triathlon & Duathlon takes place at the beautiful Caesar Creek State Park outside Cincinnati, Ohio. Triathletes will be treated to swim courses in the beautiful Caesar Creek Lake. Duathletes will start off with a fast out and back run within the park. The bike courses are described as rolling on mostly winding country roads surrounding the park. The final run is an out and back run that features a long section across the old dam levy on gravel roads.

Caesar Creek State Park is highlighted by clear blue waters, scattered woodlands, meadows and steep ravines. The 3,741-acre park offers some of the finest outdoor recreation in southwest Ohio including boating, hiking, camping and fishing.

DEER CREEK TRIATHLON & DUATHLON

The Deer Creek Triathlon & Duathlon is a great way to get back to multisport racing! The event takes place in the scenic Deer Creek State Park in Pickaway County (about 35 minutes South of Columbus, OH) and features a mostly flat and fast course with a few rolling hills on the bike.  Triathletes will be swimming a rectangular course along the beach while duathletes will start their race with a run within the park. The bike course take place on the roads surrounding Deer Creek Lake. The races finish with an out and back run course within the park. This race is a perfect “first race of the season” to welcome you back to racing and get you ready for an exciting season of racing.

Participate as an individual or get 1-2 friends, family members, or co-workers together and form a relay team!  There is also an Aquabike (swim + bike) category for each distance.
